Omaha Nebraska to Plattsmouth Nebraska

Nebraska

Weather  Max 14 Min 1

Got up today and hit the laundry again and was just chilling out when my friends from Arkansas - Kae and Ang - called. They were picking me up 2 days early for the trip back to their home in Arkansas.

Packed very quickly and was glad I had made the laundry run earlier.

It was sooooo good to see them again after 5 years  and it was equally sad to say goodbye to Karen and Robby :(

We drove to Plattsmouth Nebraska and are staying the night with Kae's sister, Amy and husband Steve and daughter Lexi.  They have made me feel very welcome in their home :)

We went to a sports bar - DJ's Dugout for dinner - more good food :)

Ribs....hmmm....Huskers.....meh!

Omaha, Nebraska

Weather Max 12 Min 1

As would be expected I started the day with a turkey sandwich...delicious and there's enough leftovers for many more sangers.

For some reason I felt really tired today and slept for 2 hours in the morning and then another 3 in the afternoon. I'm thinking it might relate to the anti histamine tablets I've been taking to combat my cat allergy. We have three feline house mates  stealthily watching my every move.

The day was sunny and crisp and cool and a nice change from the very overcast rainy days we've been having. I went for a walk to the convenience store and  really enjoyed seeing the sun again.

Hey, sunshine, I missed you!

Robby is the King of Ribs and worked his magic with the smoker and produced this yummy result. They tasted amazing and once again I overindulged. I'm going to be paying excess baggage on my return trip :(

After the ribs we were set to watch the Huskers play but unfortunately my afternoon nap got in the way and they wouldn't wait till I woke up. It seems sleeping was the wise thing to do as the Huskers were cleaned up by the Iowa Hawkeyes.

I finally reappeared and another turkey sandwich and the last of the pumpkin pie finished me for today  and I'm about to retire again.

Thanksgiving

24 November 2016

Omaha, Nebraska

Weather Max 4 Min -1

A quiet few days - cold and wet and rainy and "good stay at home and keep warm and be happy to not have to go work"  days.

The shops are all full of Thanksgiving goodies and I liked the name on this one.

Thanksgiving was a joint effort with me and Karen and Robby having all hands on deck. I was turkey cooker. The turkey was selected on the basis of it slamming my finger against another turkey while it was hanging with it's gang of frozen mates in the supermarket freezer - I hold a grudge so I baked that puppy!!

While the turkey was cooking we watched the Macy's 90 th Parade

Below are the various stages in the life of a turkey on Thanksgiving Day 2016

BEFORE.........

...........AFTER......

.....EVEN MORE AFTER!

Lunch was great and we...not surprisingly....ate way too much...!

Me and Karen and Robby

Lunch was followed by Pumpkin Pie with whipped cream and chocolate brownies....and.....a nap. I tried hard not to but found it necessary.

It was a great day and it'll take till Easter to work off even half the calories. No dinner required!

Time Travel and catch up time

19 November 2016

Seattle Washington

Weather - Bloody cold

I awoke early and it was still dark and a peek out the window saw the Space Needle dressed up in its night gear.

So pretty

I flew out of Seattle at 1 pm with Delta Airlines and all went well re baggage requirements. I am so glad I went extra early to the airport because it was mega busy and going through security was a major event. Even got x rayed to make sure I didn't have any hidden weapons. :)

The flight was about 3 hours long and we landed at Salt Lake City, Utah. I could see snow dusted mountains from the terminal. Pretty.

Just a smidge of snow

I had a connecting flight to Omaha, Nebraska leaving 50 mins after we landed and I was a bit  nervous in case it was a long way away (like the Sydney incident).  I raced up to a Delta desk and asked where I needed to go and she pointed to the gate right next to the one we landed at. DOH!

Another couple of hours and I landed in Omaha, Nebraska at approximately 8.15 (Central Time) to -1 celsius.  Brrrr!

I was very happy when Robby and Karen arrived to pick me up. Robby had his Aussie t-shirt and hat on to celebrate.

Robbo & Kazza!!

We drove home and  talked for hours and it was a bit weird because it was 2 am their time but only midnight mine - I had crossed 2 time zones and once again my body was  a tad confused about just what time it was.

Omaha, Nebraska

Weather Max 8 Min -3

I awoke about 5 am - or was it 6 am - freezing. The temperature was -4 Celsius and the heater had stopped working. I got up and put on some more clothes and went back to bed. I finally got up about 9 I think - still  confused.  Doesn't take much :)

Bitty the cat is definitely a football fan

....also a "boxing" fan...?

Karen cooked bacon and eggs which hit the spot and then we went out to gather supplies for Thanksgiving which is on Thursday. I'm very much looking forward  to that ........ although I guess the turkey isn't.

My very first string cheese

Burritos for dinner and too many cherry chocolates. Karen is a bad influence.
