Currumbin Wild Life Sanctuary - Queensland Australia

2 March 2013 Daughter Lee and her friend Yumi (visiting form South Korea) and I headed off to Currumbin so Yumi could fulfill her dream to cuddle a Koala. It was raining when we woke up, it was raining when we left, it was raining when we got there and it rained all the time we were there and all the way home. And when I say it rained it bucketed down. In spite of the soggy conditions we still had a great day out. First stop was Surfers Paradise - normally a beautiful golden beach with blue seas and lots of young surfers showing off their six packs (we're not talking beer here!)  Today - not so much!!
Lee and Yumi

On to Currumbin - unfortunately a lot of the park was closed due to flooding. There has been so much rain all through January and February that the ground is saturated and the rain just doesn't soak in any more.

Holding a snake was on my Bucket list - thank God that's over and done with. As you can see by my face I'm reeeeaaaallll happy to touch it. NOT!! shudder!!
Yumi fulfilling her dream
Yumi just loved the Koalas but she also realised they aren't all fluff and cuddles. One turned it's back on us and pee'd in a tree and the one in her arms gave her a nasty scratch and Yumi smelt very very bad for the rest of the day. I can smell it again just looking at the photo! Phew!

Crocodile Dun-Lee
We all got up close and personal to a baby crocodile - child's play after Lee and I petted the bloody big Alligator in the Everglades in Florida.

The decision was made to make tracks home fairly early because the rain was now coming down so hard it was either go or stay and build an Ark.

The trip wasn't complete without a stop over at the World Famous Yatala Pie Shop

What can I say - it was bloody delicious - leave the diet for another day.

Being a sensible person I called it a day but Lee and Yumi went on to a restaurant - one that serves up Australian Wildlife for dinner. Now if this seems at odds to our trip to the Wildlife Sanctuary it is. Bloody cannibals!!
